Kaylee Baker

Kaylee graduated recently with a B.A in jazz studies and environmental studies. Her main instrument is guitar, but she first learned saxophone and piano growing up!

She grew up surrounded by music, and was especially influenced by her dad who plays the drums. He led her to gravitate towards jazz and blues music. She was lucky enough to take music lessons throughout her life and learned early on the impact of music education. She took saxophone lessons for about 8 years, and then also took guitar. She has always loved learning new instruments and playing with friends.

In high school she realized her passion for guitar, but also her love for the environment. She was able to combine both passions during her time at UVM, focusing most on jazz guitar and ecology. She played in various groups at UVM, including the Latin Jazz ensemble, nonet ensemble, guitar ensemble, Chromaticats, Pep Band, and others with friends on campus.

She worked various jobs throughout school, but one of them was working as a caretaker. Incorporating music into this work felt essential, and reminded her the importance of music therapy and music education. It was a great experience and made her interested in teaching music.

Kaylee says, "I can't wait for the summer and am really excited to share my love of jazz with the campers again this year."
