Summer Jazz Camp is a weeklong music day camp that provides an opportunity for young musicians to learn the “how to” of performing in small and large jazz ensembles, while focusing on developing their musical skills in a relaxing educational and fun atmosphere. The Morning Session is designed to accommodate students of all experience levels and they will be assigned to entry level, intermediate, or high school level ensembles according to age, and/or skill level. We also provide an Afternoon Session designed to accommodate high school level students, and more advanced students, affording them the opportunity to experience greater challenging music in a more advanced ensemble. We will also develop additional ensembles or combo groups for gifted individuals. Ultimately, campers of all skill levels will work to become more creative, experienced and well-rounded musicians. All campers will showcase their skills to their parents and friends in a live performance on the last day of camp.

In order to reach new musical heights, Summer Jazz Camp 2010 activities will include:
Improvisation
Sessions – The ability to communicate, jam, and solo with other musicians
are necessary skills for all successful musicians, whether you sing, play piano,
guitar, trumpet or any other instrument. Summer Jazz Camp stresses the
importance of improvisation and the ability to play together in various
ensembles. Our instructors work to improve each camper’s communication skills
in a group setting while they play in various ensembles together.
Basic
Theory and Music Composition – Campers learn how to communicate and
document their musical creativity, as they learn basic music theory and the art
of music composition.
Listening
and Jamming Sessions –
Campers take part in learning how and what to listen to in various musical
styles. They will also have the opportunity observe and hear their Instructors
perform and demonstrate how professional performers listen and communicate with
each other.
